Here are some terms and definitions that may be referenced when discussing Massachusetts applications:

Term (alias)

Definition

CORI / CORI form / Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) form

A document provided by the applicant granting Massachusetts the authority to perform background checks.

SORBs / SORB form / Sexual Offender Registry Board form

an additional check authorized by the applicant to be performed by Massachusetts.

Wall Certificate

A printed copy of their license to display on a wall.

Voucher

A voucher is a promise of payment from Mass DCF for one of the following:

  • Application Fee & Examination Fee

  • Application Fee but NO Examination Fee

  • NO Application Fee but Examination Fee

  • No Application Fee and NO Examination Fee

Regardless of the voucher granted, the cost of the license and wall certificate (if applicable) are never included covered by a voucher

DCF

Massachusetts Department of Children & Families - when applicants work for the DCF, they MAY be eligible for vouchers to offset the application and or exam cost

Applicant / Candidate

The individual applying for the license. Technically they are always an applicant when dealing with their application, and always a candidate when dealing with their exam.

Key Differences from other license applications (UT, CO, TX)

  1. We generate the license number for the applicant once they have passed the examination and all documentation has been received.

  2. The applicant can take the exam, but still not be allowed to receive a license.

  3. There will be several processes that will run against/affect multiple applications at the same time

    1. Generating the CORI spreadsheet to be sent to the MA board

    2. Generating the SORB spreadsheet to be sent to the MA board

    3. Printing out wall certificates for everyone granted a license between a specific period

    4. Printout out labels for everyone granted a license between a specific period (always the same range as 3c)

  4. We will require a dynamic number of references per application with a minimum number of each type

  5. There will be deficiencies that will be displayed against a combination of questions, in addition to the Master Status question.

  6. The applicant will make multiple payments against their application.
