SA NSTA's FAQs

  • Do I have to mail it in?

    • Yes, Parts I and II of the ASWB Request for Nonstandard Testing Arrangements must be submitted with original ink signatures via mail.  Copies, scans, emails or faxed signatures will not be accepted.

  • Can Parts I and II be sent separately?

    • Yes, Parts I and II may be sent separately with the original ink signatures, but the request will not be reviewed until both parts are received. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

  • Who sends the request? Me or my practitioner?

    • The request can be sent either by the candidate or the practitioner. As long as the request is received with the original ink signature by mail, it will be reviewed.

  • Have you received my request?

    • Search for the request by looking in the “Received 2023, Pending 2023, Notify 2023” folders in S:\EXAM SERVICES\Special Arrangements\SCANS\2023.

      • If the candidate’s request is in any of these locations, please let them know if we have received it or not.

    • If they are asking for a status update:

      • Requests are reviewed in the order in which they are received. The candidate will receive an email from the coordinator if more information is needed. The candidate will also be sent an email with an attached determination letter once their documentation has been processed.

  • How long does it take to process a request?

    • A request can take up to 3 weeks to process once it is received in the mail. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

  • Can I schedule a call?

  • Are my NSTA’s expired? or when do my NSTA’s expire?

    • Check the database for the expiration date.

  • What do I need to do to update my arrangements?

  1. Ping the appropriate Coordinator to look up the candidate and place the candidate on hold.

If the appropriate Coordinator is not available at the time, you can reach out to the other Coordinators for support.

  • If it is determined that the candidate needs a whole new request, the candidate must submit a new Part I and II, and personal statement. Per our policy, requests are valid for up to one year. A new request must be submitted as we are unable to extend arrangements.

  • If it is determined that a candidate has a learning disability and we still have their evaluation on file, then we would need to determine the following:

    1. Do they want the same arrangements?

      1. Yes-- We would just need a new Part I completed by the candidate to approve for another year. We can email the Part I to them via DocuSign. Can take their name and email address by phone or they can email specialarrangements@aswb.org.

If you obtain their email and full name via phone, add them to the Part I DocuSign Excel Bulk list (S:\EXAM SERVICES\Special Arrangements\SCANS\2023\Review Folder 2023\DocuSign Sheets).

ii. No-- If they are wanting more arrangements, they will need to complete a new request (Parts I and II, personal statement, and updated evaluation if it pertains to that diagnosis).

  • Can my request be expedited?

    • No, we do not expedite request. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

  • DocuSign Issues:

    • If the candidate is having a hard time with the email, they received from DocuSign. They must click on the yellow button that says, “REVIEW DOCUMENT”.

“You will need to click on the yellow button that says, “REVIEW DOCUMENT”. Once you click on that button, it will direct you to the request form. You will need to click on the button to agree to DocuSign’s Electronic Record and Signature Disclosure, and then hit continue. From there, you will need to complete the form and hit submit.”

    • If they are still having issues, it may be an issue with their phone:

“If you are using your phone, there could be a formatting issue depending on the phone and browser you may be using.

Please try to use a laptop or desktop computer to open and complete the document. If that does not work, please let me know.”

    • If they are still not able to open the document after attempts to troubleshoot.

You can ping one of the Coordinators to email the candidate and attach a hard copy of the specific request form to the candidate.

“Since we are not able to troubleshoot the issue, and if you are comfortable doing so, I will reach out to one of the coordinators and request them to email you the PDF form of the request. You could then print the attached PDF, fill out by hand and scan back to the coordinator to process.

Note: For security purposes, we ask that you DO NOT COMPLETE THE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

Make sure to add registration notes for those candidates with an open or former registration that you speak to on the phone.
